What is the difference between SEO and PPC?

PPC or Pay-Per-Click advertising are the 'sponsored' listings appearing at the top or on the right side of the search engine results page. PPC advertising allows advertisers to pay for ad positioning on search result pages. Each time someone clicks through to the listed web site, the search engine charges the advertiser.

SEO or search engine optimization is the process of optimizing a website to perform well in the free or organic search engine results. Web sites should always be frequently monitored and updated with fresh content, but once optimization is done, it's done, and should enjoy high long-term search engine placement.

What are Keywords and do I have to pay for them?

Keywords are the words used by people searching for information. When running a PPC advertising campaign, keywords can be purchased from search engine companies and when a user searches with this keyword the search engine will display relevant ads in the sponsored listings.

With SEO you do NOT pay for keywords. Although keyword research is still extremely important. You NEED to know what words your target market is using so you can use these words in the pages of your site.
